Hotel review: Amari Watergate Bangkok

Hotel review: Amari Watergate Bangkok

Whilst in Bangkok,I stayed at the Amari Watergate Bangkok for two nights. It's location is fabulous as it is located right in the heart of Bangkok's shopping district,so you have the famous Platinum Fashion Mall,Pratunam Market,Siam Paragon, and Central World all within walking distance from the hotel.

Having flown in the day that I checked in,I found that the hotel was relatively quick to get to from the airport via a taxi (ask to pay the toll and go via the highway),and it also within a walkable distance to the train stations, with Ratchathewi BTS Station being the closest.

The first thing I noticed when I walked into the hotel atrium, was a stunning stream of cascading twinkling lights. These are made of 847 pieces of handcrafted Murano glass which signify the hotels street address 847 Petchburi Road.Inspired by the hotel's location, the significance of water to Bangkok and Thai culture, this installation is named"Water of Life",and looks like falling rain.Just spectacular!!

There are 569 guest rooms and suites at Amari Watergate in total, and having had a tour of some of the rooms, they are all sizeable with contemporary touches, and some have dreamy bathrooms! For a large hotel it never felt like it was busy as it was so spacious all around.

I was staying in an Executive Club Room, and had access to the dedicated executive lounge located on the 32nd floor, where my check in process was completed. At the executive lounge,a daily breakfast buffet is served,as well as complimentary beverages. It has amazing panoramic views of the city's bustling skyline, with sweeping floor-to-ceiling glass windows, marble top tables and comfortable lounge chairs.Luckily I made it in time for happy hour (5pm – 7pm),and enjoyed a nice glass of champagne whilst eating some delicious food after checking in.

My room was widespread with contemporary comfort and warm touches, and a cityscape view. The king size bed was lush and I had an excellent night's sleep! There was a decent-sized work desk in the corner of the room where I could catch up on my work and emails (I was being a digital nomad after all) and there is really good high speed complimentary wifi, which is always a major plus point! There was also a super comfortable lounge chair, perfect for perching on to watch TV or read.

The bathroom was well equipped with both a bath tub and a shower.I loved the own brand toiletries because they were bio-degradable!These little touches are starting to gain more importance for me as I try to become more sustainable.

Facilities & Services

For those wishing to work out, there is the FIT Centre on the eight floor which has an extensive range of gym equipment and fitness programmes that you can register for. There are also squash courts.

I opted to go down the relaxation and pampering route instead and opted for a Siamese Head Massage which lasted for 60 mins, and is inspired by ancient Indian techniques,at the Breeze Spa.This was perfect and I felt so blissed out after.

As lots of lovely oils had been massaged into my scalp, after a few hours of relaxing by the pool,I headed to the Breeze Salon for a wash and blow dry too!!

The pool was my highlight (alongside the food),and I spent ages on a sun lounger reading my book, sipping on cocktails from the pool bar and eating delicious food for lunch.

They also had an Ice Cream Menu!!

There were lots of tables and chairs around the pool bar, perfect for a spot of lunch or snacks, and the service was excellent.

The Amaya Food Gallery,an all-day dining restaurant that takes inspiration from the street food of Asia,is incredible!I had my breakfast here, and the choice was mind blowing.I was particularly pleased to find fresh dosas being made at one of the many live cooking stations.

The main weakness and highlight for me though were the doughnuts!I just could not get enough of them.I preferred the breakfast here to the Executive Lounge for the choice, but the morning views of the city from the Executive Lounge are also worth getting up for.

I also had dinner at The Amaya Food Gallery,on the Friday Seafood night and it is literally a seafood lover's heaven.

The lobster with garlic butter was sublime and I also really enjoyed the crab. There was so much on offer and I thought it was fantastic value at 1750 THB inclusive of unlimited soft drinks and water.Definitely worth it and make sure you come hungry as your eyes will definitely be bigger than your stomach.

Next to the Amaya Food Gallery is a stunning dining room, which I was told is occasionally used for wine pairings.I didn't get a chance to do this but if you happen to be staying whilst its on,the room is spectacular!!

For coffees and pastries,The Lobby Lounge is perfect and spacious, and a lovely spot to people watch from!!

I loved my stay at Amari Watergate Bangkok, and its location is superb, with the massive shopping malls being a walking distance away. The area is bustling and buzzing, and it is pretty central. The service at the hotel is top notch, the food I had was divine, especially the seafood night, which I highly recommend. The breakfast spread was epic and I loved my room, both for its size and comforts. The pool with its city views was my favourite spot and the perfect place to sit back, relax and unwind.

If you are looking for a 5 star hotel which ticks all the boxes,Amari Watergate Bangkok does just that!!
